August 10th & 14th, 2024 - Community Mosaic Mural Installation event
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Green Star Movement for their incredible work in bringing this beautiful mosaic art to our community (located on the viaduct on Marquette Rd. right next to Marquette Park). The positive feedback and compliments from people passing by showed the amazing effect it had. On August 10th, we had the pleasure of stopping by to bring snacks and goodies to the team as a token of our appreciation. Special thanks to Uvaldo, owner of Butter Dough, for providing delicious cookies and croissants, which brought smiles all around!
With the community coming together, we placed cut tiles on the wall, grouted, and polished to create something truly meaningful and beautiful for our neighborhood.
At our second community event on August 14th, it was especially moving to meet the family of fallen Officer Vazquez Lasso, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. It was a heartfelt moment as they joined us in this uplifting event. You will notice blue flowers on the mural, which were added to the design in honor of Officer Vazquez Lasso, who lived with his family not far from the mural site. We are deeply grateful to Alderman Tabares, the 8th District CAPS officers, Commander Spreyne, Jafa Smith, and our neighbors for their support and for being a part of completing this community project.
